The LMUcard for students (student ID) is a multifunctional chip card with the following functions
The card contains an optically rewritable validation strip on which information on validity, the semester ticket and the faculty are indicated. To update the validity, the LMUcard must be validated by the cardholders. Information on this and the other functions of the LMUcard will be published at www.lmu.de/studierendenausweis.
The LMUcard is designed to meet the requirements of the ISIC’s International Student Card and includes the same master data as required by the students there.
The right to issue the LMUcard follows from the right to self-government of the University of Munich in terms of its organisational right (Article 12(1) of the BayHSchG). According to § 6(3) of the enrolment, feedback and exmatriculation statutes of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, the LMUcard is an optional student card issued on application and as such. The application and use is voluntary.
The purpose of data processing is the creation and use of the LMUcard as a multifunctional chip card. By means of LMUcard, students can prove their enrolment (Article 42(2) of the BayHSchG), their student status and thus their membership to the University of Munich and to one of their faculties in legal dealings — i.e. within the university and its institutions and vis-à-vis third parties — (Art. 11(1) BayHSchG, Art. 17(1) sentence 1 BayHSchG, Art. 27(2) BayHSchG). On the other hand, it is possible to use as a library card and canteen card and for the semester ticket

Uploading a photo is voluntary. Acceptance as an international student card analogous to ISIC is usually only given with a photo.
The processing of academic degrees and titles is carried out as part of the performance of the university’s public tasks, insofar as the processing is required by law or the title is part of the name. In addition, the imprint is voluntary.
Signing on the student card is a valid feature and serves the protection of abuse. The data processing takes place in order to fulfil a public task in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 lit. e GDPR in conjunction with Art. 4 para. 1 BayDSG. The signature also serves to personalise and accept legal transactions. Without signature, acceptance as an international student card is also limited or not given in the same way as ISIC.
The data is processed on internal data processing systems. Within the LMU, only those persons or areas that need it for the fulfilment of the aforementioned processing purposes will have access to personal data. The relevant persons are subject to data secrecy pursuant to Art. 11 BayDSG.
Unauthorised disclosure of the collected and processed data to third parties, international organisations or a third country will not take place.
The stored data will be processed for the purpose of creating the LMUcard as long as and to the extent necessary (Art. 4 para. 1 BayDSG) or consent.
After exmatriculation or after the return of the LMUcard, the data in question will be deleted immediately from the corresponding systems, provided and insofar as there are no statutory retention obligations (e.g. with regard to student data pursuant to Art. 6 (1) BayArchivG) or other processing purposes (e.g. Art. 6 para. 2 BayDSG). This also applies to the data stored at the Studierendenwerk, the University Library and the Bavarian State Library.
The uploaded photo will be processed exclusively for the creation of the LMUcard and will be deleted seven days after the LMUcard has been handed over or after cancellation of the card application or upon revocation. The photo print is checked when the LMUcard is issued to the authorised person. The printing of academic degrees and titles is voluntary, insofar as the data processing is not carried out by law.
Insofar as data processing is based on consent, the deletion takes place with the withdrawal of consent.
After returning the LMUcard, the card will be destroyed in compliance with data protection.
